Safety of Indians is top priority, says PM Modi in Lok Sabha (x)

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the Lok Sabha on key developments and strategic aspects of the ongoing West Asia conflict and said that "the whole world is speaking to all stakeholders to end this conflict."

What did PM Modi say in the address?

While addressing the Lok Sabha, PM Narendra Modi said that the West Asia crisis is now on for three weeks and counting, and added that "The whole world is speaking to all stakeholders to end this conflict."

"The whole world is affected, and we are making efforts that India feels the effect the least. Indian economy's fundamentals are strong, and that has helped," PM Modi told the Lok Sabha. 

PM Modi also shared details regarding the people who have returned, saying, "More than 3 lakh Indians, including students, have returned home so far and about 1,000 Indians have returned safely from Iran, which include over 700 medical students.

Sharing about talks with the heads of state of most West Asian countries, PM Modi said, "Since this war began, every Indian in the affected countries has been provided assistance. I have spoken over the phone with the heads of state of most West Asian countries for two rounds. All have assured the safety of Indians. During the conflict, some people have lost their lives, and some have been injured."

Is Middle East important for crude oil?

PM Modi while addressing the Lok Sabha said that, "India has extensive trade relations with countries at war and affected by the conflict. The region where the conflict is taking place is also an important route for our trade with other countries around the world, particularly for a large portion of our crude oil and gas needs."

What did PM Modi say about the safety of Indians?

Talking about the safety of the Indians, PM Modi said that, "Our missions in the affected countries are continuously engaged in helping Indians. Whether it's Indians working there or tourists who have gone there, everyone is being provided with all possible assistance. Our missions are regularly issuing advisories. 24/7 outreach rooms and emergency helplines have been established in India and other affected countries. Through these, all affected people are being provided with the latest information. In times of crisis, the safety of Indians in India and abroad is crucial."

What about the Strait of Hormuz disruption?

PM Modi in the Lok Sabha said that India has made diplomatic efforts towards peace. “But attacks in commercial shipping, and the disruption of Hormuz Strait are not acceptable,” he said.

Did PM Modi chair a meeting?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting to review the situations related to petroleum, crude oil, gas, power and fertiliser sectors in view of the evolving situation in West Asia.

What was the focus of the meeting?

PM Narendra Modi reviewed the situation related to petroleum products, crude oil, power, and fertiliser sectors.

The focus of the meeting was on ensuring uninterrupted supply, stable logistics and efficient distribution across the country.

The high-level meeting was attended by Union Ministers including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, S Jaishankar, Mansukh Mandaviya and Piyush Goyal.

Earlier this month, PM Modi said that the situation in West Asia was a "matter of grave concern for us".
